Last Thursday, October 12, the cozy space of the Gibraltar Playground filled with people looking for (more) volunteer work. First a delicious bowl of pumpkin soup and bread with hummus, then seven pitches from organizations from the West.
Volunteer dates on Valentine’s Day
Photos: Peter LangeOn February 14th, love was in the air at Jungle Amsterdam, a sustainability center in the East district, where we organized the first Valentine’s Volunteer Café. Over forty visitors and nine social organizations first enjoyed soup.Grandma’s Soupeating bread with dips.
Simone Timmer (VCA): “You have all come because you are interested in volunteering and who knows, maybe you will also meet a nice person to go on a volunteer date with! Have you already glanced at each other or had a chat while eating soup?”
Why did we organize this café? Because volunteering is about love. It’s about helping someone in need, teaching someone something, doing a small task for someone. It’s about contributing with others to a better neighborhood, a healthier world, a more inclusive society. It’s about paying attention to the world around you. And by doing so, you give and receive love.
The evening started with nine pitches from social organizations where you can do various things as a volunteer. This was followed by four speed dating rounds where visitors could get to know the organizations better. During the drinks with lovely love songs, people could get to know each other better! You can read a nice report of the evening onEast Online.
