What are you going to do?

Every Friday, the most fun band in Amsterdam East rehearses. The band members are young people with mild intellectual disabilities. They play on special instruments that everyone can play. Making music and singing together; what a great way to start the weekend! A professional band leader teaches the lessons, and we are looking for you to join us in playing along and assisting and motivating the musicians when needed. It’s nice if you have some experience with music, but it’s definitely not necessary. Experience with the target group is helpful but not required. Above all, having the desire to make music with a fun group of people is the most important. There are two performances per year, which are highly anticipated and a truly unique experience.

What do you get in return

When you join the Neighborhood Band, you’ll quickly have a friendly group of people around you who come together weekly with enthusiasm to make music. You’ll notice that you come home with a boost of energy. You make a difference for a group of young people. Through the Neighborhood Band, their self-confidence rises and they build a larger social circle. The start of the weekend has never been so musical!

Rachel is celebrating this week that she has been a lunchtime supervisor at Rijk Kramerschool for 10 years. “It brings me a lot because you get a nice break, also outdoors in the fresh air, and you have nice contacts with your lunchtime colleagues, the teacher of your class, and of course with the children. I especially find the preschoolers really enjoyable.”
