During the Voluntour 2026 through the Nieuwmarkt neighborhood, participants discovered inspiring organizations, met local volunteers, and explored the many ways they can contribute to the historical heart of Amsterdam.

While others are still searching for what they want to become later, Wail Kherrazi is already actively building. He is the youngest climate mayor in the Netherlands. And with a group of volunteers, he organizes free workshops on technology and sustainability and deploys stationary robots for social impact. His drive? Giving back with what he has received himself.
Aranka has done two years of volunteer work at the Sarphatihuis as preparation for her medical studies.
Mart (18) and Menno (16) work every other week on Sunday at the studio of the Local Broadcasting Company Landsmeer.
Hannah van de Grient (28) is volunteer coordinator at The Mall de Baarsjes. “Our volunteers walk alongside young people on their journey through life.”
Souad (24) is a volunteer at the White Tulip Foundation where she gives children language and math tutoring every Sunday. “The children are very eager to learn, I find the interaction with them interesting.”
Jamie is 15 years old and a volunteer at the football club ASV De Dijk. He is a coach, referee, maintains the fields, and works in the match room.
