What is excluded from the CBA?

Not all organizations where volunteers work are accepted by the AVV. Cultural institutions and for-profit sole proprietorships are scrutinized. For the AVV, societal benefit is paramount. Resident initiatives, working groups, committees are included.

Additionally, not everyone falls under the definition.volunteer. It is clear that professionals are not covered by this. But also tourists from outside the EU who work as volunteers are not insured through the AVV. Refugees are covered.

Not all risks are covered by the AVV. Do visitors or participants hold your organization liable for damages? This is not covered by the AVV. A separate public liability insurance is needed for these situations. A board member who financially damages the organization through improper management is also not covered. For this, you would need to take out a directors’ liability insurance.

Do volunteers provide advice to clients on, for example, allowances or debts? Is there a risk that a volunteer may cause damage to a client through incorrect advice? In that case, a separate financial liability insurance is worth considering. And think about damage caused by a data breach. Do you collect personal data and what risks are there in case they fall into the wrong hands?
