Volunteer Work for Status Holders

st leren helpt 2017 Emilia (002) klein online

As Vrijwilligers Centrale Amsterdam, we are committed to new Amsterdammers! We help them find meaningful volunteer work where they can practice the language and develop their talents. We do this in collaboration with volunteer organizations, the Municipality of Amsterdam, language schools, and a team of ambassadors (experts by experience).

By doing volunteer work, status holders get the chance to build a social network in an accessible way, practice the Dutch language, create a daily routine, and make a meaningful contribution. And volunteer organizations can make use of the experience, skills, and talents of these new Amsterdammers.

Getting started as a volunteer?

Do you have a refugee background? Would you like to meet new people? Practice your Dutch? Build your CV? You can do that as a volunteer! As a volunteer you can do many things. Together with other volunteers, you can cook in a community restaurant, work in a vegetable garden, help with technical odd jobs, or become a coach of a sports team. Vrijwilligers Centrale Amsterdam can help you find volunteer work where you meet other people, improve your Dutch, or use your skills.

What does volunteer work mean for participants?

By getting involved as a new Amsterdammer through volunteering, you can learn a lot and meet new people. It can mean a great deal to you. Read about the experiences of some participants:

Valesca visits a single mother with a toddler weekly. “There is no prior education to become a father or mother; you really learn that in practice. That’s why it’s nice if someone occasionally gives you a push in the right direction.”
