What an honor! Professor Erik Scherder wants to come and talk to the volunteers of Amsterdam about how important volunteer work is for your brain. On Monday, February 27, Vrijwilligers Centrale Amsterdam and Leef & Leer! are organizing a special event titled ‘New Connections’ for existing and prospective volunteers of the city, as well as all the people from the organizations they work for. The aim is to show how crucial it is to get involved and be active (or remain active).

Drawing from his expertise, Professor Erik Scherder will elaborate on the importance of ‘New Connections’ in the short and long term. What does volunteer work have to do with creating new connections in your brain, and what happens in your brain when you make ‘new connections’?

During this afternoon, two major urban organizations in the field of volunteer work in Amsterdam are joining forces. The event will be opened by Henriette van der Meij (director of Vrijwilligers Centrale Amsterdam) and Martin Berendse (director of OBA). After the event, attendees will have the opportunity to get to know one or more organizations that work with volunteers. When:February 27, 3:30 PM – 6:00 PMWhere:OBA, Oosterdokskade.
