At Vrijwilligers Centrale Amsterdam, we help everyone looking for suitable volunteer work. People with a distance from the labor market, psychosocial problems, or limited proficiency in the Dutch language are also welcome. For them, volunteer work can be a valuable way to build a work routine, increase self-confidence, gain experience, or make social connections. It is important, however, that someone is motivated to get started. We are not here to convince people if they have no desire to do so – on the contrary. We want to encourage people, but never push them.
Although volunteer work and day care are sometimes confused, it is important to keep the difference clear.
When day care is a better fit, we refer people to the Neighborhood Team (Buurtteam).
The required skills vary per position. In general, someone is suitable if they:
It is a great opportunity to be active, to learn, to meet new people, and to take personal steps forward.
For those who use volunteer work as part of reintegration, participation, or civic integration, we offer personal support. An appointment at one of our consultation hours is a good first step. Together, we map out what someone wants and can do: motivation, interests, knowledge, skills, and any limitations relevant to volunteer work.
After the conversation:
When a suitable position has been found and the person is enthusiastic, we put them in contact with the relevant organization. Further coordination takes place between the candidate and the organization.
Supervisors are of course welcome to accompany the person to the mediation conversation. We remain available for questions, but encourage self-management and independent steps.
Would you like to refer someone for volunteer work as part of reintegration, participation, or civic integration? A personal appointment at one of our consultation hours is a good first step. Social organizations can also refer people to us. For example, when a candidate volunteer does not fit within their own offerings, but may be better suited elsewhere. We are happy to think about alternatives. Not sure whether volunteer work is suitable, or whether day care is a better fit? We are happy to think along with you.
Easily make an appointment online or call us at 020 – 530 12 20.
An information session is also an option. Feel free to contact us for more information.
