How nice is it to celebrate your successes together with your volunteers at the end of the year, during a Christmas dinner or other enjoyable gathering.

Happiness hormone

When you reflect on beautiful moments and positive developments together, the happiness hormone endorphin is released. It creates a pleasant feeling that you want to experience again. Volunteers are thus encouraged to get involved with the organization again. By celebrating successes, the likelihood of new successes increases. You are training the brain that success is worth rewarding.

Connection

Celebrating successes connects team members with each other. You hear about what others have done and show appreciation for it. And you receive appreciation from others. This strengthens the bond between team members. It shows: we are proud of ourselves, we have done well.

Finally, collectively celebrating successes ensures that employees and volunteers learn more about what has been achieved.

6 Ways to Celebrate

Six tips to celebrate your successes with your volunteers:

  1. Write down all the successes on a flip chart with your team. It is important that no discussion arises. The facilitator writes down and asks questions if the flow stops. Write in different colors, use the entire sheet so that something cheerful emerges visually. People are always surprised by how much has been done and especially what has been done. This is suitable during a meeting or other gathering. It takes 10 minutes.
  2. Everyone is allowed to step on the soapboxto share something that has made him or her happy, inspired, or touched in the past year. Everyone will be thanked with a small gift and a nice card with a handwritten personal message. This is suitable during a joint lunch, drinks, or dinner.
  3. Give a card to all team memberswhere they write a compliment to another team member.
  4. Don’t just celebrate your successes at the end of the yearWrite about it throughout the year in your newsletter, blog, or on Facebook.
  5. Share big and small successesUnexpected successes and personal achievements, this shows that all contributions are important, no matter how big or small they may be.
  6. Set a goal together at the beginning of the yearSet the counter and count down….. Every step, no matter how big or small, contributes to the counter.
