Verhalen
Rashed is a sweet, humble man, with a delightful twinkle in his eyes, and he enjoys a good joke. He feels right at home at the BORO*ATELIER.
Rachel is celebrating this week that she has been a lunchtime supervisor at Rijk Kramerschool for 10 years. “It brings me a lot because you get a nice break, also outdoors in the fresh air, and you have nice contacts with your lunchtime colleagues, the teacher of your class, and of course with the children. I especially find the preschoolers really enjoyable.”
Expat Briony is volunteering at the Animal Shelter Amsterdam. “It brings me joy, confidence, and respect. If I didn’t use the PowerPoint presentation in my work, the world still turned around.”
Eelkje comes to Janny’s house for an hour every week. They enjoy going shopping together at Osdorpplein or Eelkje cooks and bakes. “I prefer meatballs because I love them so much,” Janny beams. Janny is so limited by her rheumatism that she is completely dependent on others. For the past five years, she has not been able to go outside independently. Eelkje is happy to help her. “It’s just an hour a week.”
At City Farm Osdorp, people with early-stage dementia have been able to participate in various activities as day care for over a year. This peaceful, healthy, and green environment is perfect for this purpose. Ria and Joke lead these mornings. “We both do it with love and want to be a link for the people.”
Nassira is also active as a volunteer at SEZO. She is dedicated to helping Amsterdammers with various questions during the WegWijsSalon of Buurtteam Amsterdam Nieuw-West. “I have truly become a different person.”
