This month, the GDPR is celebrating its fifth anniversary. A suitable moment to draw attention to this again. GDPR is a Dutch translation of a European legislation in this area, called General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and its agreements on the storage and use of personal data that companies and organizations operating in Europe must adhere to.

To commemorate the 5th anniversary of the GDPR, VCA has prepared a refresher quiz for you to test your knowledge!Take the quiz. The General Data Protection Regulation suddenly became a reality in May 2018 – large and small organizations had to make clear whether and how they handle personal data of their employees and customers. Terms like privacy statement, special personal data, data processing agreements made their entrance into conversations at the coffee machine or during meetings at various levels. Because it is not enough to have your organization GDPRproofTo comply, you must also make your colleagues aware of various rights and obligations regarding privacy in the organization and in your personal life.

With the GDPR, the privacy rights of European citizens are well taken care of, a luxury that residents of countries outside Europe do not have. This luxury does require quite a bit of extra work. For volunteer organizations, it is a challenge to properly store and timely delete personal data of volunteers and their clients. Sometimes you may find yourself in situations where you still want to keep special data about someone, even though the GDPR does not allow it.
