A second life
Tessel is a volunteer at the Swap Boutique of the Fashion Street
Tessel: “The coffee at Pleur en de Koek is so delicious that I often went there after dropping off my son at school. That’s when I also noticed the Wisselboetiek, right next door, on Modestraat. What a great concept: you bring in clothing, receive stars/points for them, which you can then use to choose something else in the store. This is how I started exchanging clothing of my own that I had always kept, hoping to regain my old figure, for suitable clothing for myself and clothes for my son.”
Donate Stars“After being a regular customer here for a while, I heard that they were looking for volunteers and I offered to help. It has been almost three years since then, and I still work there with great pleasure. I enjoy interacting with all kinds of people. People from all walks of life, different nationalities, and all ages; the diversity here is great, so cozy. Sometimes people donate clothes and they don’t necessarily expect anything in return. We then give these stars to people who don’t have items to donate but are in need of something. This way, everyone is happy!”Photos: Jackie Mulder
