Giving is the new buying! After Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Tuesday, December 3rd is time for #GivingTuesday. A global day of action to do good with small and big deeds. Because giving (love) is what truly makes you (sustainably) happy. We are happy to give you inspiration and have listed nine possibilities for you.

Donate clothes and items

Every year, residents of Amsterdam throw away kilograms of clothing. What a waste, as it can also be reused. So, bring everything you no longer wear to a collection point, for example,The Salvation ArmyofAmsterdam Thrift StoreOr have it picked up for free at home. Furniture, electronics, or other items are also welcome at the thrift store. Win-win, you get a tidy closet and make someone else happy.

Give a compliment

A few kind words can have a big impact. Give a sincere compliment to someone in your immediate surroundings or to a stranger on the street. It’s nice to give and it will definitely put a smile on the other person’s face.

Give books a second life

Throwing away books is something no one really wants to do, but sometimes they end up getting in the way. You can always give them a second life. Place them in a mini-library that you come across in many places on the street. Or donate them toSecondhandbookswanted.nl– they will search for a new destination for you (ranging from a school to a charity). In Amsterdam, they will pick up books for free starting from 50 pieces.

Introduce social engagement

Do you work for a company where social responsibility is not on the agenda yet? Or do you really want to, but don’t know how? Take a look atBusinessInvolved.AmsterdamSee what you and your company can do for social organizations in the city with your colleagues. Today is a very good day to start this and sign up your company and colleagues.

Look around you

What small good deed can you do today? Smile at a passerby, be extra friendly to the cashier at the supermarket, reach something for an elderly person on the highest or lowest shelf at the supermarket, or have a chat with the neighbor you encounter. How are you doing? A simple question, but showing interest and giving a little attention can make someone feel really good.

Share your experience as inspiration

Share today about your volunteer work or something else you do to make the world a little bit more beautiful. Use ‘#givingtuesday’ to inspire others and show the impact of your efforts.
