Volunteer organization in focus: Amsterdam Rescue Brigade
The Amsterdam Lifeguard Brigade
There are more than 1500 different social organizations from Amsterdam connected to us. When they are looking for volunteers, they post a call for this on our platform. What kind of organizations are these? What is their mission? And what exactly can you do here as a volunteer? Monthly, we highlight an organization that has recently joined us. This time: The Amsterdam Lifeguard Association.
“Saving someone from the water is indescribable in words”We live in Amsterdam on and around the water. Not everyone can swim, usually things go well, but if something goes wrong, you can rely on the volunteers of the Reddingsbrigade. The Amsterdamse Reddingsbrigade has been around for over 100 years and has a well-trained surveillance team and is a reliable emergency services partner. They were deployed at the liberation concert on the Amstel, the opening of the Hermitage, the triathlon on and around the Sloterplas, the round IJburg (rowing and sailing races), open water swimming competitions, boat parade during Sail, the Grachtentocht for rowing sloops, and much more. The rescue brigade is entirely run by volunteers and does not receive any subsidies.Watch a short video here
Would you like to volunteer for the Amsterdam Lifeguard Brigade?
They are currently looking for enthusiastic swimming instructors. Small groups and fun are a priority! With swimming rescue, children learn to save themselves in the water and also others. When they are more advanced, they learn to rescue others and also from the rescue boat.
The swimming lessons are given at the Noorderparkbad and at the Sloterparkbad.
