VCA photographers contribute to the cookbook City Pass.
These photos were taken by the VCA Media photographers, but are not included in the cookbook. The Stadspas is celebrating its 30th anniversary. To mark this occasion, the cookbook ‘Amsterdam aan Tafel’ is being released. 30 years of Stadspas is 30 years of connecting and sharing the city with each other. ‘Amsterdam aan Tafel’ covers all of this. The cookbook features 152 recipes to put delicious food on the table for little money. You get a glimpse into the kitchens of, among others, André van Duin, Dries Roelvink, the Rijksmuseum, Stadspas holders, and chefs from beautiful social initiatives. Most of the photos in the book were taken in recent months by the volunteer photographers of VCA Media.
Easy and healthy
These photographers have created 50 photo series at various neighborhood restaurants, cooking projects, and people’s homes. They mainly capture the social aspect of cooking and eating together. Because cooking connects!
Alderman Marjolein Moorman, Education and Poverty Reduction: “Amsterdam is a paradise for food lovers. It’s easier to shop with a full wallet than when you have to watch your budget. This cookbook shows that you can prepare the most delicious meals with affordable ingredients and without too much hassle. There is so much knowledge about affordable tasty food in Amsterdam. With ‘Amsterdam aan Tafel,’ we are happy to share this knowledge.”
The basis for this cookbook is the vegetables from the Food Bank. The Food Bank often receives questions about what to cook with certain vegetables. And so, the City Pass issued a call for tasty, healthy, and beautiful dishes. Easy recipes with ingredients that don’t cost too much. Preferably made in an average Amsterdam kitchen without too much fuss.
Brussels sprouts mash
The chefs in ‘Amsterdam at the Table’ each put their own twist on these delicious vegetables. City pass holder Manal from Zuidoost had enough recipes to fill the entire cookbook. Manal estimates she now has nearly 4,000 cookbooks. Her tastiest recipe, a savory snack, can be found on page 87. Irene lived in Morocco for 27 years. During that time, she lovingly mastered the Moroccan cuisine. Curious about how her Harira recipe comes together? Check it out on page 237. Comedian André van Duin eats out a lot, but when he’s at home, he loves to keep it simple with ‘Just the old-fashioned Dutch cuisine.’ He shared with us a simple Dutch Brussels sprouts mash.
