Summer Volunteer Café in Center

On Thursday, July 29, the Summer Volunteer Café Center took place. This time specifically for people who are nearing retirement or already enjoying it and would like to do volunteer work.

How nice it is to finally meet in person again!

This summer we were hosted at the House of Time, next to the Protestant Diaconate. The meeting started in the Courtyard with pitches from 5 organizations active in the Center. Then the group split into different rooms to safely speed date and see if a beautiful collaboration could arise! Every 10 minutes, a new organization came by to provide more information and answer questions. After all the speed dates, it was time for drinks, once again in the garden, where everyone chatted and had a good time.The organizations present:

Neighbor Network

Neighbor network connects people who want to do something for their neighbors with people in their area who could use some extra help. Such as small tasks, running errands, or a social activity like a walk or for a cup of coffee.

House of Time

The House of Time is a place where daily life with dementia takes center stage. Where everyone who is directly or indirectly involved can meet and learn from each other. Here, discussions take place on how to approach dementia in a different way.

Philomela Foundation

Philomela aims to make classical music and art accessible to everyone. They do this through professional music productions, actively involving the audience whenever possible.

Neighborhood and Playground Association de Waag

De Waag Playground is a neighborhood playground in the Nieuwmarkt area of Amsterdam. The playground is run by parents and volunteers. The association aims to create a place in the neighborhood that serves as a meeting point for new activities where the community itself will determine the atmosphere and contribute to various groups in the area. They do this by organizing activities in and around the association’s building.

The Food Bank

The goal of the Food Bank is to ensure that Amsterdammers with limited financial means have enough to eat. Weekly, the Food Bank provides food packages to almost 2000 families by collecting food that would otherwise be wasted. They also aim to bridge the gap between food waste and poverty.
