Pop-up exhibition: Ode to the volunteer
A Super Cup of almost two by two meters with stories and portraits of volunteers who selflessly dedicate themselves to football clubs. That’s what this pop-up exhibition is about. It is a tribute to all those who contribute to the Amsterdam club life. You look at portraits while listening to a radio play.We are social workers, we are psychologists, we are trainers, we are everything. Sloterdijk can really count himself lucky with a volunteer like Richard. At least that’s what my wife says.
(Sports) associations in the Netherlands are often seen as a binding factor in society. A large group of Amsterdammers forms the heart of club life. They do work for a club that is often taken for granted and goes unnoticed by many members. Who are these people, what drives them, and why? How do the volunteers see themselves? They were asked these questions, which resulted in personal stories, memories of the past, and ideas. Based on this, a text has been composed that can be listened to as a radio play in the exhibition. All this based on an idea by photographer Wil van Iersel.
I’ll be honest, I have 30 children there. Amazing, right?
