Aartje (84): “I lead the Intercultural Meeting Mornings, every Tuesday morning. Everyone is welcome; meeting comes first, from woman to woman with respect for each other. I still enjoy doing it.”
From the Kitchen: volunteers support people with intellectual disabilities during their work in the restaurant. Together, they prepare a three-course menu for guests on a weekly basis.
Petra is a volunteer at Buurtbuik. “We collect food from supermarkets and companies that is on or one day past the expiration date and turn it into a delicious meal. Everyone is welcome to join. I always say: as long as I’m here, no one is hungry.”
Music connects. Relaxes. Improves condition and alleviates loneliness.
Rini Stegeman (69) has been a volunteer at the Animal Ambulance for eight years. We were allowed to spend an afternoon with her on the ambulance.
Peter van der Mast (57) is a running buddy for blind and visually impaired individuals. They go running together in the park every week. “I enjoy helping others to stay active. Plus, I get to hear the most interesting stories and my fitness is improving all the time.”
Frank Hemminga is one of the founders of the MOVE foundation. They organize educational boat trips in Amsterdam.
