Valesca visits a single mother with a toddler weekly. “There is no prior education to become a father or mother; you really learn that in practice. That’s why it’s nice if someone occasionally gives you a push in the right direction.”
While others are still searching for what they want to become later, Wail Kherrazi is already actively building. He is the youngest climate mayor in the Netherlands. And with a group of volunteers, he organizes free workshops on technology and sustainability and deploys stationary robots for social impact. His drive? Giving back with what he has received himself.
Despite his busy job, Gerben is committed to De Zonnebloem Jong Amsterdam. “I just make time for it, because it’s 100% worth it. It really gives you a different perspective on life.”
“It was one of the most enjoyable summers I’ve had in a long time,” Vanessa says. Last May, she decided to follow her curiosity and try out various volunteer tasks. “One week I was at a museum with the elderly, the next week at a festival or at Artis. I not only rediscovered my own city but also myself.”
