Annual Report 2017

Amsterdam comes to us

Creating an annual report takes an enormous amount of time. But it also generates a lot of energy every time. It is very good and important to reflect on an entire year: What did we accomplish? What trends do we see? What have we achieved? What went well? What can be improved or needs to change? Of course, we also evaluate throughout the year, but critically reviewing all our activities and projects in Amsterdam once a year and seeing them together is valuable.

Amsterdam Impact
In 2017, we once again accomplished a great deal, and more and more people are finding us through social media. With new projects and initiatives, we respond to trends and developments. Our mediators often heard touching, beautiful stories from volunteers who dedicate themselves to making the city more beautiful. We wanted to share these stories to inspire others to volunteer and to show how diverse volunteering can be. On our Instagram page @amsterdamimpact, there are now nearly 300 photos and stories of volunteers, taken by our volunteer photographers.

Amsterdam Thanks
Through another innovation grant from the Municipality of Amsterdam, we also put extra effort into thanking and appreciating volunteers. Because, as Alderman Van der Burg so beautifully said: “People say that Amsterdam is built on poles. But what is much more important is that the city is built on people. They shape the city. Many people do this as volunteers. They are indispensable to Amsterdam.” During the campaign around December 7th, National Volunteer Day, we thanked no fewer than 12,499 volunteers.

Farewell
You can read more about everything we accomplished in 2017 in our annual report.
What is certain is that we build on the strengths we have developed in recent years. We continue to invest in our collaborations and valuable connections; we remain true to our independent position; we continue to invest in knowledgeable and committed staff, and we remain open to new developments.

After working at VCA for 13 years, I am saying farewell. But I have every confidence that the team will continue all the good work.
