The number of responses to volunteer work in Amsterdam is increasing. We see a rise in the number of registrations for opportunities in the first months of 2026.VCA-job board: in January 745 responses, in February 783 and in March 755. For comparison: in the same period of 2025, those were 748, 692 and 633. This is a total increase of 10.1% compared to last year.

Also in relation to 2024, the growth is visible. In that year, VCA recorded 654 responses in January, 619 in February, and 586 in March. Compared to these figures, the number of responses in 2026 is 22.8% higher.

The figures seem to indicate that interest in volunteer work is increasing. Especially calls with a direct, tangible impact can count on many responses. For example, there was a lot of enthusiasm for a call from the Food Bank in Amsterdam-North, a hospice that is seeking additional support, and specifically volunteer work in nursing homes, such as caring for flowers.

Also, initiatives in the city center attract attention, such as cooking for homeless Amsterdammers. In addition, there is a lot of response to volunteer work with children, such as assisting with homeschooling, mentoring children, or exploring together in the Hortus.

This development fits into a broader trend where social engagement increasingly translates into concrete action. Volunteering offers Amsterdammers an accessible way to make a difference close to home.
