In Amsterdam West, there is extra support available for Amsterdammers with a social assistance benefit who want to do volunteer work. This is done through a collaboration with Work, Participation, and Income (WPI). Client counselors can easily refer someone to a mediator for volunteer work. In a personal conversation, someone’s interests, talents, and what is feasible are discussed. Based on that, a place that truly fits is sought.

Why volunteer work?

Volunteering can help to rebuild rhythm, gain new experiences, and strengthen self-confidence. It also expands the network and involvement in the city. For some Amsterdammers, it is a first step towards (paid) work. With this new collaboration, there is now more space in West to support people specifically towards participation – and where possible – work. Are you a client coordinator and want to discuss whether volunteering is suitable for your client? Or directly sign someone up? Contact Faten. She is happy to think along with you about the possibilities.

This support is also available in other districts. In the North, you can go to Wendy and in the other districts to Melita.

Are you an Amsterdam resident with a welfare benefit? Then ask your customer advisor if this project might be something for you.
