At the Volunteer Center Amsterdam, we are looking for an operational manager who provides direction, maintains oversight, and builds a future-oriented organization with us.As an operational manager, you ensure that the Volunteer Center Amsterdam (VCA) runs smoothly. You bring structure, coherence, and calm, so that colleagues can do their work with joy and impact. You work closely with the managing director and actively think about the further development of our (internal) organization and the positioning of VCA. This new role offers plenty of room for personal input.

What are you going to do exactly?

As an operational manager, you move smoothly between strategy and execution, between people and results. Your main tasks:

  • You are responsible for the tactical and operational management of the organization.
  • You lead approximately 18 professionals (intermediaries, organizational advisors, and project staff) and coach them in their development and daily work.
  • You bring structure and coherence to tasks and meetings, and you monitor progress and priorities.
  • You bring calm and direction to an environment that is constantly in motion. You provide space where possible and guidance where needed.
  • You are visible, approachable, and actively contribute to an open, inclusive, and learning culture.
  • You are a sparring partner for the team (content and process) and for the managing director (strategic and tactical).
  • From practical issues, you spot opportunities for the positioning of VCA.
  • You translate vision and strategy into concrete goals and projects, with an eye for a healthy business operation.

What do you bring?

You are a manager with a heart for people and for social impact:

  • You have 3 to 5 years of experience as a coaching leader in the social sector and you flexibly adapt your leadership style to the needs of employees, and you can switch according to the needs of the employees.
  • You stimulate ownership and autonomy within clear frameworks and consciously utilize people’s talents.
  • You are organizationally sensitive and navigate smoothly within the organization and in collaboration with partners.
  • You enjoy working with short lines of communication, you have a decisive and efficient approach, and you prefer minimal bureaucracy.
  • You are a natural connector and know how to inspire and persuade people to join you.
  • You are a warm and caring person, someone with whom people quickly feel at ease and are eager to reach out to.

Volunteers Central Amsterdam is the expertise center for volunteer work in the city. With a team of 25 professionals and 24 volunteers, we strengthen voluntary engagement in Amsterdam. We help Amsterdammers find a volunteer position that makes them happy, support social organizations with knowledge, advice, and guidance, and show how important volunteer work is for the city.
