Designer Omar Munie makes embrace bracelets

Omar Munie: “At the age of nine, I fled to the Netherlands with my brothers and sisters because there was a war in my home country, Somalia. Here, I could start a new life and focus on the future. I attended fashion school and quickly started making my first bags, eventually establishing my own company. It was a success; I have received many awards.”Signs of connection“However, I know better than anyone what it’s like to be in a vulnerable position. That’s why I like to use my fame as a designer for good causes. Including Care Bears Amsterdam, an informal care organization in Amsterdam Nieuw-West where volunteers provide one-on-one support to vulnerable non-Western elderly people. I have contributed to them with my embrace bracelets, partly made from used life jackets with which refugees have survived the crossing to Europe. The volunteers and participating elderly wear the bracelets proudly as a sign of strength, diversity, and connection.”Want to wear a unique embrace-band on your wrist?Look here.By doing this, you are also supporting vulnerable elderly people in Nieuw-West and the refugee projects of the Dutch Tulip foundation.
