You shine, you are the stars

“Welcome everyone to the volunteer party, a gift because each of you gives so much to others. Together you ensure that this area moves, the artery through which the North lives on,” said wordsmith Atta de Tolk, during the music festival for volunteers in Amsterdam North, Sunday, December 8th at the Tolhuistuin.Volunteers make the district more pleasant and enjoyable, which is why they were put in the spotlight by Volunteer Center Amsterdam and Stadsdeel Noord. There was a varied program with The Young Ones from Muziekschool Noord, Rita Gemerts & Friends, who gave many people goosebumps with their jazz music, and the Elzenhagen collective, showcasing talent from different parts of the world. Rapper Lil’ CB, with his charisma, got everyone out of their seats, Master Stu (‘De Zwarte Hazes’) seemed to be giving everyone a fireworks display; the room was alive, the roof came off. And finally, a beautiful musical conclusion by the Noordmannen. All of this under the direction of presenter Marco Akkan.

“Never thought this would be so much fun”

Around 250 kind-hearted people in attendance had a great time. There was laughter, dancing, singing along, and even more dancing. Atta summed it up nicely: “Each person is unique, yet they come together like harmonious music. Despite the apparent differences, they create the melodies they desire together.” One of them is Hanan: “I volunteer at the Doras foundation, where I am a support woman and health ambassador. What a fun party it was! I came alone, but I met many people.”

Anna is also excited. “I take care of the croquettes and hamburgers at the Spin foundation, once a month. My daughter also volunteers and invited me to this. I never thought it would be so much fun! Very well organized with delicious snacks and drinks.” “I even found myself dancing, which I hadn’t done in a long time!” another person shares.

Stars

The highly successful afternoon is concluded by Atta: “North is flourishing and you are the reason for that. That has become abundantly clear today. Together, you form the face of the North, you shine, you are the stars, you are the Northern Lights.”
