Do it in the rain: an adventure!

VCA Team Zuid Dasha van Amsterdam and Melita Bacic participated in NLdoet on Friday, March 10, on a day with rain and snow. Active in the Vondelpark, together with GroeneBuurten from SOOZ.

It was an unforgettable experience. Not afraid of the rain and wind. Mission accomplished!

Melita:

“It was a special morning. Wet and cold. Not an ideal day for volunteering in the greenery. But Dasha and I were determined to continue and meet in Vondelpark. People from Groene Buurten were already there, as well as some people from the business world. The diehards! I hesitated, I wasn’t wearing suitable shoes: white & pink sneakers. Dasha arrived and I knew immediately: we will carry on. My colleague doesn’t know how to give in.

And my sneakers are completely clean again. I had to think of all the volunteers who enthusiastically do volunteer work in Amsterdam to make our city more beautiful!”

Dasha:

“Yes, it was truly an adventure! The idea was to hang birdhouses. We also made a hedge from pruned branches from elsewhere in the park. From small wood chips to half trees, we were busy with wheelbarrows and branch cutters. Additionally, plants were put into the ground. A lot of work was done in just a few hours, and once you’re already wet, it doesn’t really matter anymore. And enduring hardship is part of it, through such an NLdoet activity you have the opportunity to experience this. Everyone was working hard, rain or no rain.”
